My Role since I joined YOUR UNION...
I’m Adam Smith, Staff Supervisor for City of Newport Campus, also G.B.T Cross Campus Officer. I am 28 years old mature student, who really enjoys helping, supporting and looking out for other the best I possibly can. When I joined Coleg Gwent Students` Union back in September 2011, I had no idea how much hard work and dedication the roles would be, yet the fun and enjoyment but most of all the rewarding feeling I get when I able to help fellow students like yourself was and is amazing.
Since September 2011, I have proven to all that I am very capable working both on my own and with the Students` Union team also under pressure. Due to this I was rewarded with PROMOTION and made STAFF SUPERVISOR just 3 months into the academic year, which was a great achievement, showing I got no problems with helping ALL students voicing their views, opinions and concerns to the relevant members of staff. In some strange way I like and enjoy it.
One of my main ideas so far, with the back of the current Vice President was to introduce a EVENING SHIFT at City of Newport Campus on Mondays, Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursdays so we are able to help part time learners who are normally forgotten about by other services. Been a good success and also been noticed and complimented by Heads of Learner Services and Campus Director
I organised a fundraising event were I got my very long haired head shaved and a red ribbon shaped and dyed into the back of my head (pictured below) in aid of Terrance Higgins Trust for World Aids Day and raised over £300 so I very pleased about my achievement at this.

NOW as your President:
Some of the stuff i want to do this Academic Year
Introduce evening shifts in all campuses, as it`s been a success at City of Newport Campus, I do believe I can carry out that success to the other campuses.
What to get all class reps more involved, and work more closely with the Students` Union with hope to gain better feedback, advice to help myself and Coleg Gwent Students` Union to work better for you, the Student.
Implement regular fortnightly meeting with my Deputy President and monthly meetings with all Vice Presidents on all campuses to do reviews and regular catch up progress meetings.
Listen to all students and try to make the campus facility’s better than what they already are, yes I can`t promise they will change, but that won’t stop me campaigning and TRYING to change what Students think should change.
Will lead my team of all officers at events, helping them and myself become better than what we already are. Better trained Student Union Officers are, the better we can all deliver for you, the people we here for.
Being a previous student, I know what I wanted to happen for me, so I willing to take that to the Board of Governors to try make change; spokesman for you and every other fellow student, full time and part time.
Better communication between ALL union officers and class reps, so we can help and improve your learning and time you being at college a better, happier and safer place to be.
I cannot guarantee everything I want to happen will happen and change, but I am not the type of person to sit back and wait for others to start to make change, I am hands on in your face person.
I will listen to all students and fight for all students, Full Time and Part Time. Every voice and opinion counts to me.
